Play Therapy

Play Therapy

In-Person

Play therapy helps children explore and understand their emotions, thoughts, and behaviours in a safe and supportive environment. In my therapy room, children are given the freedom to engage in unstructured play activities with a variety of toys and art materials. Through play, children have the opportunity to express themselves, work through emotional conflicts, and explore their inner world at their own pace.

My Approach

Psychodynamic play therapy with parent intake and feedback is a therapeutic approach designed to address the emotional and psychological needs of children through play, while also involving parents in the therapeutic process. Here's a description of how this approach typically unfolds:

  1. Initial Consultation: The process begins with an initial intake session where I meet with the parents or guardians to gather information about the child's history, development, and presenting concerns. We collaboratively sets goals for therapy based on the child's needs and the family's concerns.
  2. Child-Centered Play: In psychodynamic play therapy sessions, the child is given the freedom to express themselves through play in a safe and supportive environment. The therapist provides a variety of toys, art materials, and therapeutic activities that allow the child to explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences at their own pace. Children often use play and creative expression as a symbolic language to communicate their inner world and explore their unconscious thoughts and feelings. I observe the child's play themes, narratives, and interactions with toys to gain insight into their psychological processes and underlying dynamics.
  3. Parent Feedback:  After regular intervals (usually 4 sessions), I meets with the caregivers to provide feedback on their child's progress, discuss observations from the play therapy sessions, and explore strategies for supporting their child's emotional growth and development at home. Parents are encouraged to share their observations, concerns, and insights about their child's behavior and emotional well-being. Together with we collaboratively identify parenting techniques, and interventions to promote their child's overall resilience and mental health.
